Abstract
Postmodern literary theory encompasses diverse critical perspectives that challenge established structures of authority, claims to absolute truth, and dominant grand narratives, thereby creating new interpretive spaces for plurality, marginalized voices, fragmented identities, and the multiplicity of meaning. From this perspective, marginality extends beyond economic deprivation and encompasses the various ways in which individuals and communities are excluded from the social centre through structures of power, social recognition, religion, love, identity, and cultural belonging. The experiences of marginalized individuals—particularly their pain, loneliness, alienation, poverty, and search for recognition—therefore become significant sites for literary and cultural analysis. This study examines the representation of marginalized voices in Wounds of the Messiah from a postmodern perspective. It focuses on how the text represents individuals who experience exclusion and displacement within dominant social structures and how their experiences challenge established notions of identity, authority, and social belonging. Particular attention is given to the ways in which pain, alienation, deprivation, and the desire for recognition shape the identities and experiences of marginalized characters. The study also explores the plurality of voices and meanings through which the text destabilizes a single, unified understanding of social reality. By foregrounding experiences that remain outside dominant narratives, Wounds of the Messiah provides a space for examining the complex relationship between marginality, power, identity, and recognition. Thus, the study demonstrates how a postmodern reading enables the marginalized experiences represented in the text to emerge as significant alternative voices that question established social and cultural structures.
