Abstract

A story is subjective and based on imagination. Authors employ various techniques to captivate the minds of readers and encourage them to read short stories. These techniques help to deeply imprint the story in the readers' minds and reveal the author's artistic skill. They also ensure that even the subtle emotions in the stories resonate strongly with the readers. Among the techniques used in short stories are the title, beginning, ending, narrative style, suspense, symbolic appeal, point of view, flashback, and unity. It is these techniques that give the story its dynamism and vitality. The techniques are employed to illustrate the chosen theme. In this context, the techniques related to story titles found in the short stories of P. Jayaprakasam, selected for this study, are examined in this article.
