Abstract

It is a common notion that the forms of literature vary according to the changes in time and the imagination of the poet or creator. When we look for the reasons for such changes, political transformations often take precedence. Literature has transcended the state of being sung by a singer and sung about a subject, to the extent that after the religious texts that can pierce the ears were composed, it has journeyed through the minor literary figures post the country gaining independence, preparing itself for a new journey. Just as a cut tree sprouts and branches out to expand into a large tree, a language has evolved into many forms such as poetry, novels, plays, short stories, and essays, creating its own path and destiny. Even if there are a thousand words to say, in today’s era, expressing life is like a seed for the earth, and for humans, it is poetry. Keeping the great tree hidden within is like burying a great thought within oneself; that is poetry. For centuries, themes like inner life, outer life, righteousness, and devotion have sustained poetry, which tells me that everything related to life is indeed a theme. In that regard, in Kalyanji's poetry collection 'Uruppalingu', some poems reflect the essence of life.
