Abstract

Marriage, as one of the elements of human culture, is a moral system done in the interest of society. Because chastity was considered ideal, the man and the woman established the tradition of marriage as they considered chastity the best. The great scholars of knowledge also laid down canons for the marriage system. A holistic lifestyle, where two hearts are in harmony, is considered ideal. Our Tamils live by proclaiming the nobility of family relations and cultural heritage on the world stage. This study summarises that from the time of Tolkappiyam till today, wedding methods have changed in a simple and great way, such as holding hands, wearing mangalanaan, praying with holy fire, tying a mangalanaan, following rituals, self-respecting marriage, registered marriage, registering on the internet, and arranging marriage according to the place, nature, and time of the marriage.
